Switzerland is one of the world’s major Life Sciences Hubs. However, so far it has not been recognized as an academic hot bed for research in personalized health and precision medicine. This is about to change with the State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation (SERI) and the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) mandating several activities to bring Switzerland to the forefront. The Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN) managed by the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS) and the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics will invest a total of CHF 68 million in a first funding period (2017-2020). The aim is to lay the foundations for personalized health research by implementing infrastructure projects making health-related data interoperable and shareable at the national level. The SPHN complements and closely collaborates with the Strategic Focus Area “Personalized Health and Related Technologies” of the ETH domain. The SPHN has selected seven driver projects that will address important clinical research questions and push the platform development by testing data interoperability & data sharing principles within the whole network.
On this DayOne Experts Event, leaders of SPHN will give first hand insights into the initiative, and researchers will present their projects. The panel discussion with industry experts will focus on the goals, challenges and opportunities of the SPHN initiative. If you want to find out more about Switzerland’s efforts in facilitating research projects in the area of personalized health and precision medicine, please join us at this DayOne Experts Event.
